Welcome to Keeping It Real Mom

Here you'll find a blog dedicated to the Reflections of a First Time Mom - Geriatric Edition

(because who doesn't love being called geriatric when you have a baby at age 37!)

Since we're keeping it real, let me start by saying I am NOT a writer. I woke up one day repeating the thoughts in my head on no sleep with a 3 week old newborn, had a crazy idea that I should document all of the funny and witty things my delirious self was thinking, posted it to snapchat as a joke, and had so many people say DO IT that I created a website to blog the next day! So, if there are grammar or punctuation mistakes please don't "at me" I'm not a professional! I'm literally just writing random thoughts as they come to me.

So who am I? I'm your average 30 some year old who loves to travel with her husband and kind of just do what we want when we want (go ahead experienced parents, you can laugh because I get it now), got married later in life (on 2/2/22) and decided to have a baby when you're considered 'geriatric'. We're in that funny stage of life where  half of our friends are about to be empty nesters and the other half are just starting to have babies - oh and there's those with everything in between too. I work full time as a Development Director for a nonprofit called Friends of the Family in Iowa where our vision is everyone has a home (find out more at www.fofia.org) and I absolutely love what I do. My husband does mortgages for Green State Credit Union and is very good at what he does. (homeloansbykyle.com if you are looking at needing a mortgage.) We have a mini golden doodle, Tucker, who is literally the best dog in the entire world. No really, ask anyone who knows him he's a rare find! Oh, and the reason for this blog? Our brand new baby girl, Brooklyn Kay, who was born on December 2, 2022. She is now our whole world and we are so in love!

Ok Ok Ok... we're keeping it real right? There's clearly more to me than a husband, dog, baby and career so I'll let you in on that too. Here's a few of the things I love; fitness, caffeine, rap music, music in general, puzzles, sunshine, palm trees, the ocean, pickle ball, the color pink, smiling, project planning, making people feel good, EOS, Working Genius, spreadsheets, organizing things, planners, calendars, golf, pens and markers, coloring, event planning, volleyball, Cricut projects, design work, quotes, Dallas Cowboys, Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, cute athletic wear, enneagram (I'm a 1), God, surprise notes, long drives, quality time, I'm sure I'm forgetting so many but that'll do for now!
